Customised Laminated Flooring

Portable Floormakers have developed their own Jatoba parquet laminate floor on a 6mm HDF substrate to use in their Florlok dance floors as an alternative to hardwood.

This particular parquet had to be photographed, digitallised, colour corrected and printed onto paper suitable for high pressure laminating as there was nothing suitable off the shelf in any decor paper libraries. Having researched these processes for many months, it was apparent that other companies may have a use for a customised laminate floor. We can now produce laminate in house at low cost, even very small runs can be produced. They can be used in exhibitions, showrooms, display areas or shopping malls at very low cost.

The background artwork possibilities are endless (any woodgrain, solid colours, metal effects marble, wallpaper patterns, maps, photographs, printed material,etc) and logos or company names or graphics. The image is fused by heat and pressure with melamine resin and a 'wear layer' above to give a macro molecule which is bonded to the 6mm high density fibreboard to give a tough and durable laminate floor. We can create one off stunning images within a laminate floor panel, or over several panels which will lay like a jigsaw.

Floors can either be supplied as 6mm tongue and grooved panels in any size up to 3ft x 3ft, which can be loose laid over existing level flooring, or they can be supplied in one of our slot together floor systems which will lay quickly and easily without tools on virtually any surface.

We can scan your artwork or logos or work from a digital file. A copy should be provided for proofing as some colours change slightly during the laminating process.

Our customised laminate floors are resistant to normal wear and tear (A3 commercial grade laminate), boiling water, high temperatures, cigarette burns and most common spillages.

The wear resistant overlay (wear layer) was originally produced to give a tough top surface on bowling alleys and shopping malls. There are different grades for domestic or commercial use - we use AC3 which is a commercial grade using cellulose fibres and abrasive fillers including aluminium oxide. This gives high clarity with maximum durability. The Taber test measures the abrasion resistance of flooring surfaces. Our wear layer is tested at 6500Taber revolutions to give it the AC3 grading. Our standard finish is slightly matte, which diminishes reflective light whilst still giving a clear image of the graphics below, making this ideal for exhibition flooring or display panels.
